About Author:

Al-Tabari is universally celebrated as the foundational pioneer of Islamic historical and exegetical sciences. His undisputed masterwork in historiography, *Tarikh al-Rusul wa al-Muluk* (The History of the Prophets and Kings), is a monumental universal chronicle spanning from creation to 915 CE, serving as the definitive primary repository for early Islamic history. In the field of theology, his multi-volume *Jami' al-Bayan fi Tafsir al-Qur'an* (popularly known as *Tafsir al-Tabari*) remains the most authoritative, classic source of traditional textual exegesis ever compiled. Initially affiliated with the Shafi'i legal school, his profound intellectual autonomy led him to develop an independent school of jurisprudence called the *Jariri* school. Renowned for his asceticism, humility, and absolute refusal to compromise his literary integrity for political favors, al-Tabari left an unparalleled structural legacy that decisively consolidated orthodox Sunni intellectual thought.
