Answers to the questions we hear most often. Can't find what you're looking for? Get in touch.
Yes -- the large majority of what we carry is completely free to read online or download. A small number of titles show a reference price with a link to a third-party seller; we don't process any payments ourselves.
No. Browsing, searching, reading online, and downloading are all open to everyone. An account is only needed for the personal features: Favorites, a public Collection, saved reading position, uploading your own books, reviews, and reading-topic suggestions.
PDF, EPUB, DjVu, HTML, TXT, and DOC/DOCX can all be read directly in your browser -- no app required. MOBI is download-only. For offline reading on your own device, we suggest EBookDroid on Android and Calibre on PC; on iPhone/iPad, Apple Books handles PDF and EPUB well. Links to all three are in the footer under Download Reader.
Both are available on every book page. Reading online works for every supported format except MOBI, and your place is saved automatically as you go -- even in scanned PDFs and DjVu files -- so you can pick up later from My Library.
Search works the same way regardless of script -- type in Urdu (or any language) and it matches against titles, authors, and tags the same as an English search would.
Favorites is your own private shelf of saved books -- only you see it. A Collection is opt-in: it takes your current Favorites list and publishes it at a shareable web address so anyone can browse (and admire) what you've liked (favorited). It's off until you turn it on, and you can turn it back off at any time. You need to select the display name for your collection shelf, by default your name with dots in place of space will be offered. You may keep it or change it. however we may refuse your selected shelf name if it go against our policies.
Every book page has a Report Broken Link button. If you followed a link and landed on a "book not found" page instead, there's a report button there too, pre-filled with the title you were looking for.
Yes, from My Library. Uploads are reviewed before appearing in the public catalog -- you can track the status of each one (pending, approved, or rejected) from your own account at any time.
Yes -- Externally Linked eBooks in My Library lets you submit a link to a book hosted on another site. Like uploads, these go through review before appearing publicly.
Unfortunately, no -- if a book isn't already part of our catalog, it's generally not something we can source on request. We'll keep requests in mind and may add a title if we come across it, but we can't guarantee any specific book, and we cannot make copyrighted books available regardless of the request. New titles are added on an ongoing basis, so the best approach is to check back and search the site again from time to time rather than waiting on a specific request.
A small portion of the catalog is restricted to registered readers, and a few categories are hidden from public browsing for copyright or curation reasons. If a book you expect to see isn't showing up, try signing in first, or use Report Broken Link if something still looks wrong.
From My Account, request Author status. Once approved, you get your own shelf named after you, where you can edit your bio and manage the books filed under it. You need to select the display name for your shelf under Authors shelf, by default your name with dots in place of space will be offered. You may keep it or change it. however we may refuse your selected shelf name if it go against our policies.
Pick something that identifies you -- your real name or a consistent pen name works well for an Author shelf; any name you're comfortable sharing publicly works for a Collection. It needs at least one letter (not just numbers or punctuation), can't contain a "/", and shouldn't include anything offensive -- every request is reviewed before it goes live, so if something isn't suitable we'll be in touch about picking a different one. By default your name with dots in place of space will be offered. You may keep it or change it. however we may refuse your selected shelf name if it go against our policies.
