About Author:

Maryame Jameelah (born Margaret Marcus; 1934–2012) was an eminent American-Pakistani essayist, journalist, cultural critic, and author who became one of the most prominent female voices in contemporary Islamic apologetics. Born into a secular Jewish family in New York, she developed a deep interest in world religions and civilizations during her youth. After corresponding extensively with the celebrated Islamic thinker Abul A'la Maududi, she embraced Islam in 1961. Following her conversion, she migrated to Pakistan in 1962 upon Maududi's invitation, settling in Lahore, where she spent the remainder of her life writing and researching. Jameelah was a prolific author who wrote more than thirty books, consistently offering a passionate and uncompromising critique of Western materialism, secularism, and modernity from a traditional Islamic vantage point. Her writings strongly advocated for the preservation of classical Islamic values, traditional education, and cultural identity against global Westernization. She achieved international acclaim for her analytical books, including *Islam versus the West*, *Western Civilization Condemned by Itself*, *Islam and Modernism*, and *Manifesto of Islamic Movement*. Through her sharp intellectual critiques and widely read essays, she left a lasting impact on 20th-century Islamic discourse and modern political thought across the Muslim world. She passed away in Lahore on October 31, 2012.
