Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri (born February 19, 1951) is a world-renowned Pakistani-Canadian Islamic scholar, jurist, legal philosopher, and former politician who serves as one of the most visible global authorities on Sufi-oriented Sunni Islam. Born in Jhang, Pakistan, he received classical religious training under his father, Dr. Farid-ud-Din Qadri, and legendary scholars like Maulana Diya' al-Din al-Madani, acquiring hundreds of traditional Hadith transmission chains. He simultaneously excelled in secular law, graduating as valedictorian from the University of the Punjab, where he subsequently earned a Ph.D. in Islamic Jurisprudence and served as a Professor of International Constitutional Law. In October 1980, he founded Minhaj-ul-Quran International (MQI), a massive global organization operating in over 90 countries dedicated to promoting a moderate, non-extremist vision of Islam, spiritual revivalism, and community integration. He also established Minhaj University Lahore and a vast national network of more than 610 schools. Dr. Qadri is an exceptionally prolific author of approximately 1,000 books—including his multi-volume Qur'an electrometallurgy Encyclopaedia and his Urdu translation Irfan-al-Quran—and has delivered over 8,000 global lectures. He achieved major international prominence in 2010 by issuing a comprehensive, globally endorsed anti-terrorism fatwa condemning suicide bombings. Although he founded the political party Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in 1989 and was elected to the National Assembly, he formally retired from Pakistani politics in 2019 to focus exclusively on academic, spiritual, and global peace advocacy from his residence in Canada.
