About Author:

Sufi Barkat Ali (1911–1997) was an eminent Pakistani Sufi saint, author, Islamic scholar, and philanthropist who founded the non-political, transnational spiritual movement known as *Dar-ul-Ehsan*. Born in a small village in the Jalandhar district of British India, he initially joined the British Indian Army, serving with distinction as an officer in the Royal Engineers. In 1945, after experiencing a profound spiritual awakening, he honorably resigned from military service to dedicate his entire life to asceticism, divine remembrance, and the service of humanity. Following the partition of 1947, he migrated to Pakistan, eventually establishing his sprawling spiritual headquarters in Faisalabad. Sufi Barkat Ali is universally celebrated for combining high spiritual mysticism with extensive physical welfare work. Under his *Dar-ul-Ehsan* organization, he established free medical hospitals, educational centers, and specialized publication wings that provided services entirely free of charge to the underprivileged, regardless of their religious backgrounds. A highly prolific writer, he authored hundreds of books and treatises on Islamic mysticism, ethics, and prayers. His undisputed masterwork is *Makshoofat-e-Manazal-e-Ehsan* (Manifestations of the Stages of Blessing), a monumental five-volume encyclopedia detailing the stations of spiritual purification, divine love, and practical Islamic character. His other notable compilations include *Asma-ul-Nabi* and *Maqalat-e-Hikmat*. His teachings focused consistently on inter-human love, global peace, and self-cleansing. He passed away on January 26, 1997, and his final resting place remains a major spiritual sanctuary in Faisalabad.
