Dr. Mahmood Ahmad Ghazi

Dr. Mahmood Ahmad Ghazi (1950–2010) was a monumental Pakistani Islamic scholar, jurist, legal philosopher, and academician who stood as one of the most intellectually sophisticated authorities on Islamic law and Sharia jurisprudence in modern South Asian history. Born in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, he belonged to a highly respected scholarly family and displayed exceptional intellectual brilliance from his youth, mastering Arabic, Persian, Urdu, and English. He graduated from Jamia Islamia, Mansoora, and completed his master's and PhD in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of the Punjab. Dr. Ghazi dedicated his life to bridging the structural gap between classical Islamic jurisprudence and modern legal, economic, and political systems. He spent decades at the [International Islamic University, Islamabad](https://iiu.edu.pk "International Islamic University Islamabad") (IIUI), serving as Professor, Director General of the Shariah Academy, and ultimately as the university's Vice President and President. A highly sought-after legal mind, he was appointed as a judge of the Shariat Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and served as the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs in 2000. He authored dozens of globally celebrated books and delivered historic lecture series—most notably his compiled volumes Muhazarat-e-Quran, Muhazarat-e-Hadith, and Muhazarat-e-Fiqh—which provided a brilliant, highly structured introduction to Islamic sciences for contemporary civil servants, lawyers, and judges. He passed away from a sudden heart attack in Islamabad at the age of 60.

ڈاکٹر محمود احمد غازی (1950ء–2010ء) ایک عظیم اور مایہ ناز پاکستانی اسلامی اسکالر، قانون دان، ماہرِ فقہ اور استاد تھے، جنہیں معاصر جنوبی ایشیائی تاریخ میں اسلامی قانون اور شریعہ کے نظام پر سب سے زیادہ مستند اور علمی شخصیات میں شمار کیا جاتا ہے۔ وہ میرپور (آزاد کشمیر) میں پیدا ہوئے اور ان کا تعلق ایک معزز علمی خاندان سے تھا؛ انہوں نے صغیر سنی سے ہی غیر معمولی ذہانت کا مظاہرہ کرتے ہوئے عربی، فارسی، اردو اور انگریزی زبانوں پر عبور حاصل کیا۔ انہوں نے جامعہ اسلامیہ، منصورہ سے سند حاصل کی اور پنجاب یونیورسٹی سے عربی و علومِ اسلامیہ میں ایم اے اور پی ایچ ڈی کی ڈگریاں مکمل کیں۔ ڈاکٹر غازی نے اپنی زندگی کلاسیکی اسلامی فقہ اور جدید قانونی، معاشی و سیاسی نظاموں کے درمیان پائے جانے والے فکری فاصلے کو مٹانے کے لیے وقف کر دی۔ انہوں نے [بین الاقوامی اسلامی یونیورسٹی، اسلام آباد](https://iiu.edu.pk "International Islamic University Islamabad") (IIUI) میں طویل عرصہ گزارا، جہاں وہ پروفیسر، شریعہ اکیڈمی کے ڈائریکٹر جنرل اور آخر کار یونیورسٹی کے نائب صدر اور صدر کے عہدوں پر فائز رہے۔ وہ ایک بہترین عدالتی و قانونی ذہن کے مالک تھے، جس کی بدولت انہیں سپریم کورٹ آف پاکستان کے شریعت اپیلٹ بینچ کا جج مقرر کیا گیا اور انہوں نے سنہ 2000ء میں وفاقی وزیر برائے مذہبی امور کے طور پر بھی خدمات سرانجام دیں۔ انہوں نے درجنوں عالمی سطح پر سراہی جانے والی کتب تحریر کیں اور تاریخی خطبات کے سلسلے دیے—جن میں ان کے مرتب کردہ علمی مجموعے "محاضراتِ قرآن"، "محاضراتِ حدیث" اور "محاضراتِ فقہ" سب سے زیادہ نمایاں ہیں، جنہوں نے معاصر ججز، وکلاء اور سول سرونٹس کے لیے اسلامی علوم کا ایک بہترین اور منظم تعارف فراہم کیا۔ وہ 60 برس کی عمر میں اسلام آباد میں اچانک عارضۂ قلب کے باعث وفات پا گئے۔
