Javed Ahmad Ghamidi

Javed Ahmad Ghamidi (born 1951) is a globally renowned Pakistani Islamic theologian, scholar, and philosopher widely celebrated as one of the most sophisticated and influential voices of modern Islamic reformism. Born in Kakazai, Sialkot district, Pakistan, he received a comprehensive education in Western literature, philosophy, and classical Islamic sciences, eventually becoming the premier and most brilliant disciple of the legendary exegete Amin Ahsan Islahi. Ghamidi spent decades operating from Lahore, where he founded the Al-Mawrid Institute of Islamic Sciences and launched the dynamic monthly journals Ishraq and Renaissance. Adopting the structural theory of Nazm-ul-Quran pioneered by Farahi and Islahi, he developed a unique hermeneutical framework that asserts the Holy Quran is the absolute criteria (Mizan) of faith, arguing that Prophetic Sunnah is an independent category of established practice separate from historical Hadith documentation. A highly prolific author and masterful orator, his masterworks include the multi-volume legal and theological synthesis Meezan, his comprehensive commentary Al-Bayan, and Maqamat. Ghamidi’s progressive views—including his structural deconstruction of political Islamism, defense of gender equality, and critique of conventional penal laws—have drawn immense pushback from traditionalist ulema and violent extremists, leading him to relocate abroad to safely continue his global intellectual work through extensive media and digital platforms.

جاوید احمد غامدی (پیدائش 1951ء) ایک عالمی سطح پر معروف پاکستانی اسلامی ماہرِ الہیات، اسکالر اور مفکر ہیں، جنہیں جدید دور میں اسلامی فکرِ نو اور اصلاح پسندی کی سب سے اثر انگیز اور علمی آوازوں میں شمار کیا جاتا ہے۔ وہ پاکستان کے ضلع سیالکوٹ کے گاؤں کاکازئی میں پیدا ہوئے، اور انہوں نے مغربی ادب، جدید فلسفے اور کلاسیکی علومِ اسلامیہ میں جامع تعلیم حاصل کرنے کے بعد مایہ ناز مفسرِ قرآن مولانا امین احسن اصلاحی کی شاگردی اختیار کی اور ان کے سب سے نامور شاگرد بنے۔ غامدی نے کئی دہائیاں لاہور کو اپنا مرکز بنا کر کام کیا، جہاں انہوں نے "المورد انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف اسلامک سائنسز" کی بنیاد رکھی اور اپنے افکار کی تشہیر کے لیے "اشراق" اور "رینیسانس" (Renaissance) کے نام سے جرائد جاری کیے۔ امام فراہی اور مولانا اصلاحی کے "نظمِ قرآن" کے اصولوں کو آگے بڑھاتے ہوئے انہوں نے ایک منفرد تاویلی نظام وضع کیا، جس کے مطابق قرآن مجید دین کا میزانِ مطلق ہے؛ انہوں نے یہ موقف اپنایا کہ سنتِ رسول ایک مستقل بالذات دین ہے جو روایتی کتبِ حدیث کی تاریخی دستاویزات سے الگ اور متواتر عمل سے ثابت ہے۔ وہ ایک کثیر التصانیف مصنف اور بے مثل خطیب ہیں، اور ان کے علمی شاہکاروں میں ان کی فقہی و الہیاتی کتاب "میزان"، قرآن مجید کا ترجمہ و تفسیر "البیان" اور مضامین کا مجموعہ "مقامات" شامل ہیں۔ غامدی کے ترقی پسند افکار—بشمول سیاسی اسلام (سیاسی ملوکیت) کی فکری تردید، خواتین کے حقوق کا دفاع اور مروجہ تعزیری قوانین پر ان کی تنقید—نے قدامت پسند علما اور انتہا پسند حلقوں میں شدید ردِ عمل پیدا کیا، جس کے باعث سیکیورٹی خدشات کی وجہ سے وہ بیرونِ ملک منتقل ہو گئے جہاں سے وہ اب بھی میڈیا اور ڈیجیٹل پلیٹ فارمز کے ذریعے اپنے عالمی فکری و تعلیمی کام کو جاری رکھے ہوئے ہیں۔
