Professor Ahmad Rafique Akhtar (born 1941) is a highly revered Pakistani Islamic philosopher, intellectual, spiritual mentor, and author who is widely celebrated for modernizing Sufi thought and presenting Islamic mysticism through a profoundly rationalist, intellectual lens. Born into a distinguished family in Gujar Khan, Rawalpindi district, he received his higher education in English Literature from the prestigious Government College University (GCU), Lahore. After serving for decades as a dedicated professor of English Literature at various state-led academic institutions, he completely turned his focus toward deep spiritual study, lecturing, and intellectual dawah. Professor Akhtar gained immense popularity across South Asia and international diasporas for his distinctive approach to spiritual development. He famously bridges the gap between modern scientific discoveries, Western philosophy, and traditional Islamic metaphysics, emphasizing a structured, logical analysis of faith rather than mere blind imitation. He operates Al-Ahrar, a non-commercial spiritual center in Gujar Khan, where thousands of seekers, university students, and high-profile professionals gather to attend his lectures on the divine attributes of Allah (*Asma-ul-Husna*). A highly prolific orator and author, his spoken lectures have been meticulously compiled into dozens of profoundly influential Urdu books.
